About This Guide
Read this guide to learn how to configure router or BNX
®
software for the
following services:
• Simple Network Management Protocol or SNMP (Chapter 1)
• Remote Monitoring or RMON (Chapter 2)
• Bootstrap Protocol or BOOTP (Chapter 3)
• Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol or DHCP (Chapter 4)
• Reverse Address Resolution Protocol or RARP (Chapter 5)
These services all use the Internet Protocol (IP) for message transport. To use one
of them on a router interface, you must enable IP services on that interface.
This guide provides the following information for each service:
• An overview of the protocol
• Issues you should consider when implementing the protocol
• Procedures for enabling the service on a Bay Networks
™
router
• Procedures for tailoring parameters to meet your specific requirements
Audience
Written for system and network managers, this guide assumes some experience
with Site Manager software to configure Bay Networks routers. If you are
