Access Key Input Mode (AIM)
Issue 1 April 2005 121
Example of Text Entry Using AIM:
The user wants to look up a person named Oscar in a Directory database. The user presses a
Directory softkey on the Home page that initiates the AIM application. Figure 17
shows a
sample starting page. The user presses the 6MNO Dialpad button because it contains the first
letter of the name to be found. In most cases, AIM avoids the user having to enter the entire first
and/or last name. AIM also avoids multiple key presses to select letters, for example, pressing 6
four times to select the letter O.
The user then presses the dialpad number key that corresponds to the second letter in the
name once, etc. There is no need to press a number key multiple times to select a letter.
Figures 18 through 20 illustrate locating the name “Oscar” in the directory.
