Inbound Traffic Filter Criteria and Actions

• Forward to First Up Next Hop Interface

Ensures trafﬁc forwarding by specifying that any frame that matches the ﬁlter

will be forwarded to a speciﬁed next-hop router or network connected to the

router. If the speciﬁed hop is not reachable, the ﬁlter tries all addresses on the

next-hop interfaces list using ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) messages. If

none of the next-hop interfaces is reachable, any packets matching the ﬁlter

will be forwarded to the default destination for the packet destination address

(unless you also specify Drop If Next Hop Is Unreachable).

• Detailed Logging

For every packet that matches the ﬁlter criteria and ranges, the ﬁlter adds an

entry containing IP header information to the system Events log.

IPX Criteria and Actions

You ﬁlter inbound IPX trafﬁc based on speciﬁed bit patterns contained within the

IPX header.

Predeﬁned IPX Criteria

Table 3-2 lists the predeﬁned ﬁltering ﬁelds for IPX ﬁlters and the reference ﬁeld,

offset, and length value for each criterion.
