Local Mode

Use local mode to create or edit a conﬁguration ﬁle locally on the Site Manager

workstation for later implementation on the router. Unlike remote and dynamic

modes, local mode does not access a router or automatically display the router’s

hardware conﬁguration. You enter the router’s hardware conﬁguration when you

create a new conﬁguration ﬁle or edit a ﬁle with hardware changes.

To conﬁgure a router in local mode, you must

• Open a conﬁguration ﬁle. You can create a new conﬁguration ﬁle or open an

existing one.

• Specify the router’s hardware conﬁguration.

• Use the Conﬁguration Manager to perform all desired router conﬁguration

functions (adding and conﬁguring interfaces, and so forth) as described in

subsequent chapters.

• Save the conﬁguration ﬁle to the Site Manager workstation. See Chapter 3 for

more information.

• Implement the changes. To implement your conﬁguration, you must

— Use the Router Files Manager to select TFTP to transfer the conﬁguration

ﬁle to the router.

— Use Site Manager to reboot the router with the conﬁguration ﬁle.

Chapter 3 describes how to implement the conﬁguration changes.

on how to begin conﬁguring the router in local mode.
