To send and receive messages on a system configured for multiple VTCPD, the

application must specify the particular instance of VTCPD. For additional

information, see Configurations That Require Multiple VTCPD on page 91.

Routing Replies in a Host Driven Application

If an application only receives one host message at a time, VTCPD can be configured

to route the application replies through the same connection as the host request

(vtcpd -ml) (see Message Routing on page 53.)

However, if the application can receive additional messages from other hosts before it

is done with processing the first message, and the application must reply through the

same connection as the host request, VTCPD must be configured to include the link

number in the messages from each host (vtcpd -mL). In this configuration, VTCPD

adds twelve ASCII bytes to the front of each message from a host. These bytes are in

the format

XXX:YYY:ZZZ:

where XXX is the link number (YYY and ZZZ are reserved for future use). For VTCPD

to correctly route the reply, the application must add these twelve bytes to the front of

each reply.
