Demand Lines and Pools
Demand lines provide the physical connections over which the demand circuits
transmit and receive data. To maximize the number of circuits that can be active
simultaneously, you establish a demand pool.
A demand pool is a group of one or more lines that reside in the same slot on the
router. You identify each demand pool by assigning a demand pool ID. Lines in a
demand pool can connect to a modem or directly to an ISDN network (using a
router with integral ISDN capability).
You can combine asynchronous, synchronous, and ISDN interfaces in a single
pool. The asynchronous and synchronous interfaces can use Raise DTR or V.25bis
signaling, while the ISDN lines use ISDN signaling. The router automatically
configures the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) for demand circuits.
